Saima Classic was chosen as the floor material of the Piano Pavillion in Lahti. The Pavillion has been designed in the honor of Italian architect Renzo Piano. Piano received the first ever Spirit of Nature -award in 2000. The architect of the Pavillion, the Swede Gert Wingårdh, acted in the jury of the wood architecture award and started to design the object in the spirit of Renzo Piano. The Piano Pavillion is the first work of Wingårdh in Finland and his architect companion was Anders Adlercreutz. The Pavillion was opened in June 2008. The Saima-floor in the Pavillion has been laid in a Stone-cut laying pattern, using 1200 mm long hardwood floor boards. The Stone-cut pattern creates peaceful harmony in the space, allowing the space itself and the furniture in it to come to their rights. Saima is a unique wooden floor both in structure and appearance. Light reflects in a special way on Saima's lacquered surface. The secret of the multiray reflection is in the surface structure created by the birch veneer slats. |
